SCHEDULE: On Friday evening starting about 8:00 there will be sessions. The Philadelphia Ceili group will be holding their regular Set Dance in the Barry Room. There is no charge for the sessions, $10 for the Dance.
On Saturday morning at 10:00,Paddy O'Neil and Lesl Harker will be playing and talking about some of their favorite tunes, regional and personal styles. Of particular interest will be the difference between Northern and Southern repetoires and interpretations.
There will be a lunch served, and afterwards Tommy Cahill scholar and teacher of the Irish language will give a presentation on the relation of sean nos singing to the playing of tunes. Tommy's deep understanding of Irish language, song and music began in the 70s under the tutelage of world renowned scholar and musician Tomas Standeven, and the late great Sligo flute player, Eddie Cahill. Since then Tommy has taught hundreds of his own pupils, always and only for the love of it.
In the late afternoon Father Charlie and Michael Tubridy will be featured together, to play or talk as the moment takes them. We hope to enable the atmosphere of "music in the kitchen", the heart of our Irish tradition.
There will be dinner and time to stretch, then it's back to the kitchen again. In lieu of a concert, there will an informal stage for all four of these great musicians and keepers of the flame to have a session or a story, and to take us along wherever the night lead them. At some point all will be invited to join in the music.
